Meet the Leadership Team 

The Division of Finance's leadership team is comprised of dedicated, experienced, and passionate individuals who are committed to the proper and effective stewardship of our public funds and other financial and in-kind resources. The Division of Finance manages, aligns, and tracks the resources needed to improve student outcomes in a fiscally responsible manner. Integrity, accountability, and efficiency are our hallmarks. We are proud of our hard-working employees who support our educational community.

Brett Johnson is the Chief Financial Officer for APS.

Gina Lanier is the Controller for APS. Gina began her career in school finance as an accountant with APS in 2005. She held various financial positions between 2007 and 2015, including accounting manager, budget manager and director of finance.  Gina earned her Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude in Accounting and her Masters of Business Administration with a Concentration in Accounting from Saint Leo University. 

Gina has served on the Financial Policies and Procedures Committee supporting the Colorado Department of Education’s School Finance Division.  She is an active member of the Colorado Association of School Executives and the Colorado Association of School Business Officials.  Gina is a native of Bethlehem, New Hampshire and lives in Aurora.

Curt Humphrey

Curt Humphrey

Curt Humphrey is the Materials Management Director for APS.  He graduated from Arizona State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Purchasing/Materials Management.  He worked as a buyer for Denver Public Schools from 1987-1991.  In 1991 he began working for APS as a buyer for the district's vocational school.  He became the Warehouse Supervisor for the district in 1994 and then the Purchasing/Warehouse Supervisor in 1996.  In 2001 he began his current position with the district as Materials Management Director.  Since that time there have been a number of significant responsibilities added to the position including fixed assets, Print Services, Maintenance and Operations warehouse and most recently contract administration.

Curt was a previous Director for the Colorado Association of School Business Officials (CASBO), Chairperson for the Cooperative Educational Purchasing Council (CEPC) and President of the School Executives of Aurora (SEA).  He grew up near Phoenix, Arizona.  He is married with three boys.

Jesús Escárcega is the Director for Grants and Federal Programs with APS.  Jesús has been an elementary teacher and a K-12 administrator in Arizona and Colorado for the past 36 years.  He has administered both state and federal programs that provide supplemental educational programs for students identified as English Learners, Migrant, Immigrant/Refugee, Homeless, Native American or Disadvantaged.  He has also overseen the department for equity and organized professional development on diversity education with APS.

He is the Past-Chair for the Colorado Association of Latino(a) Administrators and Superintendents and Treasurer for the Colorado Association for Multicultural Education.  Jesús also serves on the Advisory Committee of Practitioners for the Federal Grants Office with the Colorado Department of Education.  He is a former school board member of the Phoenix Elementary School District, former President of the Arizona Association for Bilingual Education and former At-Large member of the Arizona Association for Gifted & Talented Education.  He received recognition as the Migrant Education Administrator from the Arizona Department of Education in 1990 and was awarded the Positive Impact Award from the Anti-Defamation League in 2006.

Jesús received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northern Arizona University and his Master's of Education degree from Arizona State University.  He's taught graduate classes on Parental and Community Involvement with Regis University.

Mona Martinez-Brosh, RD, is the Director of Nutrition Services for APS. She has over 28 years of experience in school nutrition service programs. School Nutrition is what she loves and plans to stay in the industry until she retires. She has been in her current position since July 2009.

Mona is a registered dietitian and received her Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University. She majored in Food Science and Human Nutrition with a concentration in Dietetics and minored in Restaurant Management. She completed her internship and worked for Cherry Creek School District Food Service Department. She worked as a consultant in the Nutrition Unit at the Colorado Department of Education. She was the Nutrition Service Supervisor for Brighton School District then the Nutrition Services and Procurement Director for Weld County School District 6 before moving to the Aurora Public Schools system.

Mona is on the advisory board for dietetic internship programs for the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University and Tri-County Health Department. She is very active in the Colorado School Nutrition Association. She has served as President, President-Elect, Vice President, Industry Committee Chair, State Directors and Supervisors Chair, District Directors and Supervisor Chair, and Public Policy and Legislative Chair. She currently sits on the Public Policy and Legislative committee and nominating committee. She is also the current president of the Aurora Colorado School Nutrition Association local chapter.

 Mona is proud to be a Colorado native and enjoys spending time with family.

Nan Hemme

Nan Hemme

Nan Hemme lived in Goodland, Kansas, from 1951 until 1969.  Her dad was a farmer but they always lived in town.  She graduated from Goodland High School and went to college from 1969 to 1971 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.  Nan got married in December 1971 and lived in Aurora.  They raised two girls and two boys that attended APS schools. 

Nan stayed home with her children and worked part-time until she started her career in the payroll department at APS in August of 1990.  She became the Payroll Lean in January 2006.  Nan worked part-time for eight years in the ticket office for the Colorado Rockies.

Nan has remarried and they have eight grandchildren with another one due in November.
